Middle School: Sixth, Seventh & Eighth
Middle School can be challenging for children, parents and teachers. Students are changing dramatically both physically and emotionally. They are beginning to define their place in society. During this critical time, children need adults to guide and mentor them spiritually as they fine tune the moral compass that will carry them into adulthood. Our first priority is to join with parents to nurture each child’s Christian identity and their relationship with Christ.
Academically, we focus on preparation for the rigorous area high school programs, where a majority of our graduates place into accelerated courses and receive Honor Roll recognition. German is taught to all students in sixth, seventh and eighth grades. These students also study pre-algebra and algebra while continuing their studies in literature and the sciences. Middle School students also serve as “chapel buddies” to primary students and actively lead worship on a regular basis.
In Middle School, students gain opportunities to learn and explore away for home. Sixth grade attends Lutheran Outdoor Ministery Camp and Seventh and Eighth grades travel to Washington D.C..
St. Andrews builds a strong academic foundation while offering many enhancements that make a student well rounded.
Our music program emphasizes theory, composers and an extensive variety of music. All students participate in choir and use Orff instruments to learn note reading and application of theory. Opportunities exist for both band and stringed instrument instruction. We present a biennial school musical involving all students from kindergarten through eighth grade. Our fully equipped art facility serves students in grades four through eight with younger grades receiving art instruction in their classrooms.
All students take physical education classes using our full-sized gym facility and the athletic fields of the adjacent park. Beginning in grade three, we field girls and boys athletic teams in cross country, track, volleyball and basketball that compete with other Lutheran schools across the area and state.
Our library is equipped with 20 internet work stations as well as 20 computers, the technology lab provides all students with computer time, small group lab instruction and after school open lab.
