A Message from Pastor
Blessings in Christ as we start this great month of October! I know this month gets to be a really busy ones for individuals and families, so I encourage you to make a plan for how you will keep connected to Christ. What is your plan for coming to church? What is your plan for spending time in the Word? What is your plan for resting? These are great questions to ponder. You will never do any of these perfectly, but these are ways in which God blesses us - so it is worth having a plan!

TRANSFER THE BLESSINGS: A Bequest to Save Taxes
Thomas was a widower who had a great love for our church community and family. As an individual who had directly benefited from our work, Thomas wanted to thank us with a gift from his estate. Thomas told his attorney that he wished to make a bequest to his church and school. Thomas’s estate included some stocks, real estate, and an IRA. Thomas’s attorney recommended that he give the appreciated stock and real estate to his children and leave his IRA to his church or school.
Thomas: My attorney told me that if I gave the stock and real estate to my children, these assets would receive a step-up in basis at my death. My children could then sell them without paying tax. However, if I gave my children my IRA, the IRA would be subject to estate and income tax. After paying all these taxes, truly little would be left for my family. By giving the IRA to this church,
I could make a nice gift and avoid any additional tax for my estate and children. Thomas contacted his IRA custodian to obtain a beneficiary designation form. He filled out the form and designated our church as the 100% recipient of his IRA account. Thomas’s; attorney then specified in Thomas’s will the bequest of his other assets to his children. Thomas called and notified the church of his bequest. Thomas was pleased that because our church was a tax-exempt institution, it would receive the full amount of the IRA value when he passed away, creating a legacy for the future.

How the Sausage is Made (Sermon Study) - September 30, 2026
Two Parables from Matthew 21 Pastors Ethan and Matt reflect on Jesus’ parables of the two sons and the wicked tenants, exploring how the stories challenge listeners to recognize their need for God’s grace. The conversation centers on repentance—not as self-condemnation, but as turning toward God and trusting in his grace. The parable of the wicked tenants adds another layer: …

The Terrible Parable - The Noble Vineyard Owner
Pastor Matt takes us back to Matthew 21, to the second Parable Jesus tells during Holy Week. Jesus takes on the religious leaders who act as if they are in charge and have the authority that only God truly has. Jesus challenges them with a brutal parable about a vineyard owner whose tenants act as if they own the land, …

Which Did the Will of His Father?
Pastor Matt looks at a perplexing parable in Matthew 21:23-32 - the parable of the Two Sons. While this is a hard parable to understand, it does become clear when we see it in light of the authority of Jesus and his statement to the religious leaders of the day - "Truly, I say to you, the tax collectors and …
