Co-Curricular Activities

Co-Curricular Activities

At St. Andrews Lutheran School, we believe learning extends far beyond the classroom. Our co-curricular programs give students opportunities to discover new interests, develop God-given talents, build leadership skills, and connect with classmates in meaningful ways. We offer a variety of activities designed for different age groups and passions.

Clubs Offered

Art Club (Grades K–3)

Instructor: Michelle Cimilluca

Art Club for our youngest learners is a fun, hands-on creative space where students can explore their imaginations and express themselves through art! Each week, students experiment with different materials and techniques—painting, drawing, collage, sculpture, and more. Projects are age-appropriate and focus on building fine motor skills, learning basic art concepts (color, shape, texture), and encouraging creative problem-solving in a joyful, supportive environment.

Art Club (Grades 4–8)

Instructor: Sandra Gallo

Our upper-grade Art Club gives older students the opportunity to deepen their artistic skills through more advanced projects and techniques. Students work with a wider range of materials, explore artistic styles, and develop craftsmanship and personal expression. This club nurtures creativity and confidence while allowing students to create meaningful, high-quality artwork.

Homework Club

Homework Club provides a structured, supportive environment where students can complete assignments after school. Staff are available to answer questions, provide guidance, and help students develop strong study habits and organizational skills.

Battle of the Books

Instructor: Michelle Pivas

Battle of the Books is an exciting reading competition hosted by the Park Ridge Library. Teams of fourth- and fifth-grade students read a selection of books and compete against other local schools to test their knowledge. This activity builds teamwork, reading comprehension, sportsmanship, and a love for literature.

Geography Bee

Students put their knowledge of world geography to the test by answering questions about continents, countries, cultures, and landmarks. This engaging academic challenge encourages curiosity about the world and strengthens students’ understanding of global connections.

Spelling Bee

Students practice vocabulary, spelling patterns, and word origins as they prepare for our school’s Spelling Bee. This competition encourages confidence, focus, and academic excellence while celebrating the power of words.

In 2025, one of our talented students, Katie Park, achieved an incredible milestone by qualifying for the National Spelling Bee. Katie’s dedication, countless hours of practice, and strong love for language helped her rise through local and regional competitions to earn her place on the national stage.

Student Council

Instructor: Miranda Kress

Student Council empowers students in grades 4–8 to grow as leaders within our school community. Members run for office, deliver campaign speeches, and participate in regular meetings where they share ideas, collaborate, and plan school initiatives.
Student Council activities have included:

Organizing school-wide events
Leading assemblies and performances
Fundraising for school improvements
Supporting animal shelters
Creating cards for nursing home residents
Coordinating service projects
Through Student Council, students learn responsibility, teamwork, communication, and the importance of serving others.
