Preschool/ PreKindergarten

ELC Program

We are honored to have you considering St. Andrews Lutheran School for your child(ren)!

Our Early Childhood Program offers both Preschool and Pre-Kindergarten in a loving and safe environment. Both PS and PK encourage your child to grow toward being successful in school through a play-based, academic-focused program. We offer parents flexible options for sending your child to preschool either 2, 3, 4, and/or 5 days a week with half (8:30a.m-11:30a.m.) and full (8:30a.m.-3:20p.m.) day options. We offer parents flexible options for sending your child to Pre-Kindergarten either 3, 4, and/or 5 days a week with half (8:30a.m-11:30a.m.) and full (8:30a.m.-3:20p.m.) day options. In addition, we offer before and after school childcare beginning at 7:00am and ending at 6:00pm each school day.

Our early childhood staff have a great love and passion for children. They are professional, well-educated, and fun fostering a loving, engaging and creative learning environment!

Preschool

For children age 3 yrs and potty trained, the focus is on exploring the concepts of school through play. Students will participate in hands-on learning that includes sensory play, art projects, playdough and manipulatives. We work on letter and number recognition, fine & gross motor skills and social interaction through play. Children will enjoy stories and songs during large group time and have the opportunity to participate in age appropriate science experiments.

Preschool is a max of 18 students per day, with one Teacher and one Assistant Teacher it is a ratio of 9:1.

Pre Kindergarten

For children 4-5 years of age, the focus is on demonstrating their readiness for Kindergarten by year’s end in a play based, academic and faith focused environment. Students participate in whole group lessons and individual reinforcement in centers of letters and pre-reading skills, math and science concepts, daily Jesus time, weekly Chapel attendance, music, gym, and large motor skill development. Our goal is to be socially, academically, emotionally and spiritually for Kindergarten.

Prekindergarten is a max of 20 students per day, with one Teacher and one Assistant Teacher it is a 10:1 ratio.

Early Childhood Curriculum

Math

Preschool begins with understanding numbers, sorting, making patterns, and common shapes. PreK builds on preschool concepts, subitizes, and names 3-D shapes

ELA

Preschool develops an interest in stories and books, differentiates between numbers and letters, and begins to recognize the letters in their own name. PreK recognizes key details in stories, recognizes upper and lowercase letters, and begins to write with correct letter formation.

Science / Social Studies

Science – In Science, our Preschool and Pre-K students explore the world around them by observing, asking questions, solving problems, and drawing conclusions through fun, hands-on experiments. They also learn about the fascinating life cycles of plants and animals.

Social Studies – Preschool and Pre-K understand what it means to be part of a group or community. They understand that each of us belongs to a family and recognize that families are different.

Fine Arts

Music – Preschool and PreK students participate in music, movement, and dance. They develop listening skills. Students attend music class 2 days a week.

Visual Arts – Preschool and PreK students explore a variety of medium including, watercolor, tempera paint, chalk, crayons, and markers. All students participate in the annual Art Show in May

Religion

Preschool & PreK attend weekly Chapel Services, participate in daily devotions and prayers, and use the Little Lambs I and II Curriculum.

SEL

Preschool and PreK use the Friendzy Curriculum, books, modeling, and discussions for social-emotional learning.
