CROP Hunger Walk - Did You Know?
What is CROP Hunger Walk?
When CROP began in 1947 (under the wing of Church World Service, which was founded in 1946), CROP was an acronym for the Christian Rural Overseas Program. Its primary mission was to help Midwest farm families to share their grain with hungry neighbors in post-World War II Europe and Asia.
Today, CROP Hunger Walk is a nationwide movement with community-wide events sponsored by Church World Service and organized by local congregations or groups to raise funds to end hunger at home and around the world.

Is there a local walk? Yes, each year on the third Sunday in October members of the Niles and Park Ridge communities lace up their sneakers to participate and to show support for stepping out hunger on a designated route.

Who should walk? Everyone! The walk is suitable for all ages - family, youth, students, parishioners, friends and neighbors. Chaperones are required for walkers under 18.

What if I’m not able to walk the entire route? No problem! Walk all or part of the route or create your own path with a walk around the park. Whatever path you take, please register using the QR code or before the walk step off.

Who benefits from the donations? CROP Hunger Walk helps to support the overall ministry of Church World Service, especially grassroots, hunger-fighting development efforts around the world. CROP Hunger Walks help to provide food and water, as well as resources that empower people to meet their own needs. 25% of all donations stay local to benefit the Maine Township Food Pantry.

Donations can be made using the QR code, or by indicating CROP Hunger Walk on your check or electronic donations.
